According to officials, the I-45 expansion project will cause the long-term closure of the intersection of Hamilton Street and Tuam Street in Midtown.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Officials announced that the intersection of Hamilton Street and Tuam Street in Midtown will experience a long-term closure starting Monday morning and lasting until mid-August.

According to Houston TranStar, the closure of the intersection will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 27, and is expected to last until 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.

Officials said the closure is part of the 1-45 expansion project, with crews working on storm sewage infrastructure underneath Hamilton Street.

Detour Information

During the total closure, TranStar said motorists traveling southbound on Hamilton Street will have to detour by turning right onto McGowen Street, then a left turn onto Chenevert Street, continuing and turning left onto Elgin Street, then turning right to return to Hamilton Street.

For motorists on Tuam Street, TranStar said westbound traffic will be redirected to turn right onto Chartres Street, continue and turn left onto McGowen Street, then turn left onto Chenevert Street, then continue and turn right back onto Tuam Street. Eastbound traffic. For eastbound traffic, motorists will have to turn right onto Chenevert Street, then turn left onto Elgin Street, turn left onto Chartres Street, then continue and turn right back onto Tuam Street.
